Some terms you’ll see in this guide:

RP

“Role Play”. Portraying a character in the game world by saying what they do & say.

PC

"Player Character", one of the main characters in the crew. RPed by one player.

Player

A non-GM participant RPing a single PC.

GM

"Game Master", the participant who portrays the rest of the world around the characters. Presents scenarios, RPs NPCs, guides the action, & helps with the rules.

NPC

"Non-Player Character",  a character RPed by the GM. Includes anyone the PCs might interact with (friends, enemies, & others).

Crew

The group the PCs have formed to carry out jobs. Anything from a literal ship's crew to a street gang to a military unit.

Job

The action phase of the game. The crew runs a mission, operation, or heist with a specific goal.

Downtime

The rest phase of the game. The crew recovers, replenishes resources, interacts without time pressure, & plans their next move.

Playset

The sheet that describes your game's setting. Includes a setting's possible PC options, crew options, notable factions, example gear, NPCs you may encounter, and an abstract map.

Mark

Fill in an empty slot on a sheet.

Playbook

The sheet that describes a PC. Records their role, personal info, crew info, abilities, physical/mental status, contacts, & gear.

Role

A PC's specialized type; their function in the crew.

Roll

A toss of 1 or more six-sided dice. One six-sided die is abbreviated 1D. When rolled, will have a result of 1-6. Used to determine uncertain outcomes.

Consequence

The negative in-world results of a mixed or bad roll. Determined by the GM. Can include harm, damage, or other misfortunes. Can be resisted.

Resist

To reduce or avoid a **consequence.** Incurs **6 stress.

Stat

A numerical rating of magnitude or quality.

Attribute

A stat rating a PC’s innate ability (Insight, Prowess, Resolve). 1-3 dots down the 1st column.

Action

A **stat** rating how skilled a PC is at a task (Operate, Study, Tinker, Attack, Maneuver, Skulk, Attune, Command, Sway). 1-3 dots across the action’s row.
